our bathroom mini renovation and restyle

One of our recent ‘lockdown projects’ has been to re-imagine our bathroom. Before we moved in 7 years ago, we had the wall knocked down between the bathroom (bath and sink) and the loo, to make one slightly more spacious bathroom. But it’s certainly not a big space considering how much time we spend in there. We also had the space tiled and decorated but again, this was over 7 years ago. A lot has changed since then (Stan happened for one thing!) and our storage needs are different too.

So we decided to put some of our creative energy and extra time at home into a mini bathroom renovation. Our goal was to make the space work better for us and most importantly, turn it into somewhere we would love spending time (as opposed to it just being a room we didn’t really think about or notice). With our own skills (no workmen were needed for this mini reno) and a small budget, we turned our perfectly fine bathroom into a dreamy haven of light, greenery and super chilled vibes. We completely love it and still haven’t gotten over what a difference it has made to our everyday lives. We now feel amazing whenever we use a space that previously wasn’t really enriching our lives. It most certainly is now!

So what did we actually do? Danny re-decorated like a pro which made a huge difference. We also purchased a mirrored bathroom cabinet from IKEA. This was a complete game changer as not only did it make the space feel bigger, lighter and airier, it also has given us loads more storage (which in a small London flat is everything!). I enjoy my morning and evening skincare routines so much more now. It’s like being in a beautiful spa or trendy New York hotel bathroom. We moved hooks around, changed up our open shelves (which previously housed our bathroom products) by styling them with plants that I propogated from other plants in our flat which was very satisfying!

Below is a YouTube video showing the before, during and after. Take a look to properly see the full renovation. I hope you enjoy it. We certainly have! Next time you’re in your bathroom, maybe have a little think about some small tweaks you could make to help it work even better for you and potentially bring you more joy. Because that’s what it’s all about no!?
